Drain and Main Line

Drain cleaning when the septic
is the real problem.

When every drain in the house slows down at once, the trouble is usually not inside the walls. It is the main line or the tank it runs to. We find out which, clear what can be cleared, and fix what cannot. If it turns out to be your indoor plumbing, we will say so.

Drains backing up whole house?

Start with how much of the house is affected. It is the fastest way to tell a fixture problem from a system problem.

One fixture is slow

A single sink, tub or toilet draining slowly while everything else is normal is almost always local to that fixture. This is plumbing work, not septic work, and a licensed plumber is the right call.

Several drains are slow

Multiple fixtures slowing together, especially on the same side of the house, points at a shared line. Worth a look before it becomes a backup.

Everything is backing up

Gurgling toilets, water rising at the lowest drain, or sewage at a floor drain means the main line or the tank. Stop running water and call us. This one does not wait.

Why a clogged drain repair keeps coming back.

A line that clogs, gets cleared, and clogs again a month later has something structural behind it. Clearing the blockage treats the symptom and leaves the cause in the ground.

The four causes we find most often in Northern Nevada are a tank that is overdue for pumping, roots into an open joint on an older clay line, a break from ground movement, and a belly where the line sags and water sits instead of draining.

How we work it

  • Check the tank level first, because a full tank backs up a main line and clearing the line will not fix it.
  • Pump if that is the cause, and set a realistic interval so it does not repeat.
  • If the tank is not the cause, run a sewer camera inspection to find what is.
  • Repair the line where it failed. We manage the excavation through to the finish, so you are dealing with one company from the diagnosis to the fix.

Jetting

When clearing is not enough, we jet it.

We run our own jetters, which means a line packed with grease, sludge or roots gets cut and flushed rather than just poked through. We jet main lines and leach fields, and anything else on the septic side of the property.

City sewer lines

Is it your line or the city's?

If you are on city sewer rather than septic, we still inspect and clean the line. That matters more than it sounds: when a line backs up, the city will often push responsibility onto the property owner. Putting a camera down it establishes where the fault actually is before you pay to fix something that was never yours.

Drain and main line questions.

The clearest signal is how many fixtures are affected. One slow sink is usually a fixture problem. Every drain in the house slowing at once, gurgling toilets, or water backing up at the lowest drain in the building points at the main line or the tank. If it is the second one, that is our work.

No. We handle the septic system and the line that runs to it: pumping, camera inspection, locating, and excavation and repair when a line has failed. If the fault turns out to be inside the house plumbing, we will tell you that and you will want a licensed plumber.

We start by establishing whether the tank is full, because a full tank backs a main line up and no amount of clearing fixes it. If the tank is not the cause, a camera goes down the line to find what is.

Sometimes. If the cause is grease or solids, clearing plus a pumping schedule usually holds. If the cause is roots, a break or a belly in the line, it will come back until the line itself is repaired, and the camera is what tells us which one you have.

Backing up right now?

Call rather than using the form. Backups do not keep office hours and neither does the phone.
